The older story belongs to the lakefront: 1970s and 80s ranches around Lake Keystone and the smaller chain lakes, where original wood and hardboard siding has spent decades under oak canopy. Shade keeps these walls damp, oak debris piles against skirt boards, and the lake side of the house weathers entirely differently from the road side. The newer story is builder shortcuts. Well-fed sprinkler systems in this area often carry enough iron to stain cladding orange, and heads aimed at the house keep bottom courses perpetually wet.
