A deck in Belleair Shore has the best job site in Pinellas County and the worst working conditions. Perched on the Gulf side of Gulf Boulevard, these outdoor spaces look straight down the beach toward Indian Rocks to the south and Sand Key to the north, and they pay for that view by living in salt spray, saturated sea air, and afternoon sun amplified by reflection off the water. Alpine Exteriors designs and builds decks specifically for this exposure, because a standard inland spec does not last a decade out here.
The Beachfront Deck Problem, Solved at the Hardware Level
Ask anyone who has owned a Gulf-front deck: the boards are rarely what fails first. It is the connections. Ordinary joist hangers, screws, and bolts corrode invisibly inside the structure until a railing loosens or a stair stringer lets go. Our beachfront builds use stainless steel fasteners and hangers or the highest-grade coastal coatings available, isolated from treated lumber with barrier tape so dissimilar-metal corrosion never gets started. It costs more per connection and it is the single best money spent on a deck this close to salt water.
Surfaces matter too. Bare wood on this shoreline demands refinishing almost yearly as ultraviolet and salt bleach and check the grain. For most Belleair Shore clients we recommend capped composite or PVC decking in lighter tones that stay walkable under bare feet in July and rinse clean of salt film with a hose.
